Collect clients at airport in Cape Town & drive to Knysna. Or, clients can fly to George & we collect them there. Continue to Knysna. Dinner at one of the many restaurants in Knysna. Briefing for next day’s movements!!

Overnight: Knysna (B&B)

Early breakfast, then start the day’s cycling. The first hill is just out of Knysna. Enjoy the beautiful mountain ranges on one side and the crystal blue waters of the ocean on the other side. A short stop in George (+- 55 kms) for a snack and then tackle the Outeniqua Pass, thereafter the terrain is undulating to Oudtshoorn. Dinner this evening is at Adley House or in the town itself. Knysna to Oudtshoorn: 122 kms. Degree of difficulty: (8/10)

An easy start to the day as you cycle towards Calitzdorp (50 kms) for your first stop. Then, a tough ride over the Huisrivier Pass towards Ladismith – 47kms Oudtshoorn to Ladismith: 98 kms. Degree of difficulty: (7/10)

Overnight: Ladismith Guest House (DB&B)

After breakfast 78 kms to Barrydale with a stop at the famous Ronnie’s Sex Shop. The meandering road between Barrydale and Montagu winds through one of the most fertile fruit growing regions in the Western Cape. The cycle today has some gentle hills as well as some stiff pulls – Op De Tradouw Pass 6kms. Ladismith to Montagu: 137 kms. Degree of difficulty: (8/10)

Depart Montagu & cycle through Cogman’s Kloof, taking note of the fort built by Thomas Bain during the Anglo Boer War (1899 -1902). Cycle through Ashton, Robertson & onto the R43 towards Villiersdorp – beautiful flat quiet road for 40 kms. Have a coffee stop in Villiersdorp – otherwise known as “The Pearl of the Overberg”. This town was given the name De Villiers Dorp in order to reflect the French influence of its early inhabitants (many were descendants of the French Huguenots). Thus much of the architecture is colonial and the streets are lined with towering oaks and a variety of fruit trees. Cycle past the Theewaterskloof Dam, where you will even see some yachts on the dam! Then another 20 kms until the start of an 8km climb up Franschhoek Pass – 10 kms down into the pretty town of Franschhoek where we rack our bikes. Go for lunch before your transfer to the airport or Cape Town. Montagu to Franschhoek: 150 kms. Degree of difficulty: (8/10) Total distance: 507 kilometers
