MASHATU CYCLE TOUR

Mountain Biking - Free-riding at it's best

Departures

Wilderness-based cycling adventures depart from Pont Drift Border Post (an easy 5 hour drive north from Jhb) every Friday at 14:00. Cycle Mashatu guides will be present to meet cyclists at 13:00 at the border to assist with formalities and luggage. Participants' vehicles will be left in a secure area at the border for the duration of the safari. The group will depart on bikes from the border. Ablution facilities allow for an opportunity to change into cycling gear. Cyclists will be returned to the border by 10:30 on the following Monday.

Camps

Temporary, low-impact, fully equipped wilderness camps provide for an unforgettable nights rest after a hard days ride. Meals are prepared on open fires and chilled refreshments are on hand. Starlit skies and night sounds will awaken your senses and the opportunity to stand solo night watch will inspire your instincts.

Wilderness Itinerary

Departing on bikes from the Pont Drift Border Post at approximately 14:00 on Friday under the guidance of our safari leaders, cyclists are lead through the ever-changing landscape to arrive at the 1st wilderness camp in the late afternoon. Cold refreshments, a hot shower and a wholesome dinner await you. Distances covered on the 1st afternoon vary between 15 and 25kms.

After an exciting night under the stars, awake early to a nutritious breakfast, prepare luggage and bikes and head off towards the 2nd wilderness camp. Discover new skills as rocky outcrops, sandy riverbeds and open plains test biking abilities. We'll break for a tea/drinks stop along route and arrive at the 2nd wilderness camp for lunch, followed by an afternoon siesta. The late afternoon will bring the chance to ride or drive to a nearby sundowner point. Distances covered on the 2nd day vary between 25 and 40kms.

Sunday brings a new dawn and we bike out towards Kgotla, our 3rd camp. Testing terrain and changing landscapes make for a challenging and interesting ride. A pasta lunch and hot showers welcome weary legs and an opportunity to sit back, relax and savour that sense of achievement. After an afternoon of leisure, we head off for a short walk to a nearby cliff for a sundowner. Return to an open fire prepared meal, fireside chatter and restful nights sleep in the security of a Leadwood boma concludes the safari on a high. Distances cycled on the 3rd day vary from 30 to 50kms.

Breakfast on Monday morning brings an end to the safari with a departure by vehicle to Pont Drift.
