8 DAY TOUR COASTAL REGION, CAPE POINT, ARGUS CYCLE RACE,WINELANDS

DAY 1: 08/03/2011:
Meet & greet at the airport. Bikes unwrapped, bike boxes sent to storage.
Drive via the N2 to Caledon, Bredasdorp, then on to Cape Agulhas.
Cape Agulhas is the geographic southern most tip of Africa. This is where the two great oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, shake hands. The name L’Agulhas derives from the Portuguese word meaning ‘needles’. The early Portuguese explorers foundAccommodation in L'Agulhas that the needles on their compasses showed no declination.
South Africa’s oldest lighthouse, dating back to 1849, still stands exactly where it was built these many years ago. Only today it has been replaced by a modern tower with an output of18-million candlelight. Looking down into the gloomy blue waters, standing on the edge of the cliffs near the lighthouse, your heart automatically skips a beat. This is the very place that seized many a sailor’s life, simply because he dared to dream what lies beyond her traitorous coast.
Today the lighthouse is also a museum, with a lovely little restaurant right at the bottom of the lighthouse that offers an assortment of seafood specialities as well as an excellent range of premium wines from the Cape. Lunch can be enjoyed here!
