ROUTE 62 TO SWELLENDAM & GORDON’S BAY
DAY 1: 02/02/2010
Depart Cape Town and drive to Knysna.
Check into our B&B. Have something to eat at one of the many
restaurants in Knysna.

Overnight: Knysna Log Inn (B&B)
DAY 2: 03/02/2010
Early start – with our packed breakfasts. The first hill of the day
is just out of Knysna. Enjoy the beautiful mountain ranges on
one side and the crystal blue waters of the ocean on the other
side.
A short stop in George (+- 55 kms) for a snack and then tackle
the Outeniqua Pass, after which the terrain is undulating to
Oudtshoorn.
Knysna to Oudtshoorn: 120 kms.

DAY 3: 04/02/2010
An easy start to the day as we cycle towards Calitzdorp (50
kms)
for our first stop.
Then a tough ride over the Huisrivier Pass towards Ladismith –
47kms
Oudtshoorn to Ladismith: 97 kms.

Overnight: Ladismith - Mountain View (DB&B)
DAY 4: 05/02/2010
Our first stop for coffee & our packed breakfasts is Barrydale –
78 kms. Then we cycle through the magnificent Tradouw Pass
built by Sir Thomas Bain in the 1800’s- the Khoisan originally
discovered this ancient route. The unusual word “tradau”
means “the way of the women” and is believed to be derived
from the Khoi words tra, signifying “women” and dau, denoting
“way through. We pass through the mission village of
Suurbraak on the way to Swellendam, the third oldest town in
South Africa, nestling in the foothills of the majestic Langeberg Mountains.
Ladismith to Swellendam: 126 kms. Degree of difficulty (7/10)

DAY 5: 06/02/2010
T oday we cycle towards Bredasdorp – the Strandveld is the
name given to the rolling hill countryside and windswept
rocky area around Bredasdorp. From Bredasdorp we cycle
towards Napier then Stanford, where we are staying in the
Stanford Valley.
Swellendam to Stanford: 125 kms. Degree of difficulty (7/10)
Overnight: Stanford (DB&B)
DAY 6: 07/02/2010
Lovely cycling today as we ride along the magnificent
seafront road going towards Hermanus, Kleinmond, Betty's
Bay and then Gordon’s Bay.
Stanford to Gordon’s Bay: 120 kms. Degree of difficulty
(7/10)
